It's a happy day when these spring beauties are blooming
Narcissus was a hunter in Greek Mythology defined by his vanity and beauty. Disdainful of those who sought his favor, he was tricked into falling in love with his own reflected image by his nemesis, Nemesis. There are several versions of the myth surviving, but all of them have become allegorical axioms of the perils of self-possession now known as narcissism. It is not known if the myth gave rise to our subject flower's genus, Narcissus. There are thousands of registered varieties.

These delightful flowers add welcome color to a spring garden or lawn, with their bobbing yellow heads set against the dreary landscape of late winter. "Yellow Cheerfulness" is a hardy variety renowned for its heavy, butter-yellow and orange flowers and pastel green foliage. Sown in pods along the garden edges or in a vast expanse of lawn, the prodigious producers will afford dramatic accents and outstanding, long-lasting cut flowers.
