Orange Sulphur Butterfly - Colias eurytheme
also called Alfalfa Butterfly
The orange sulphur and clouded sulphur (Colias philodice) are so similar, they cannot be reliably identified by photographs alone. Indeed, the Northern Illinois butterfly monitors do not differentiate the two species; they are counted as one.  Compare to:

Orange Sulfur nectars on black-eyed Susan flower

I had to capture one of these butterflies to see the upper wing markings, since they only pose with their wings closed. It was released unharmed.
