| Spined Micrathena Spider
- Micrathena gracilis |
| The spined micrathena spider is rather common in the woods where I shoot insect pictures here near Chicago. They spin rather large webs, and the spiders themselves are very difficult to see; I often walk through the webs by accident. I hate doing it, seeing as how spider silk comes very dear to the spider.
It's madening trying to photograph one of these large orb-weaver spiders in their web - it's such a delicate structure, and the spider seems intent on sitting right in the center - the slightest puff of air sets your subject into oscillation into and out of focus! Argh.
